Topic: VDJ 2026 / Lyric extraction / Stems problem
Last week I used early release build v2026 b8958 at my karaoke gig and it worked flawlessly all night long! So tonight I get to my gig, turn on my computer and it says 2026 version is ready so I updated it at my gig.

Omg!!! Why did I do that? The new official version is not working like the early release at all. Randomly, when I press the "Karaoke" or "Lyric" button, I get the following error message:

Lyrics extraction requires stems2.0.
Your computer is set to use only 'prepared stems'
and there are no prepared stems for this song

However, sometimes when I press those buttons, the lyrics display perfectly on the screen. Why is this message randomly appearing? Some times I press the karaoke or lyric button and the lyrics display with no problem. Then sometimes I press the buttons and the lyrics don't display and I get that stupid error message.

What is going on here? My other pc still has early access b8958 on it so I tested it tonight when I got home. Once again, working FLAWLESSLY!!

Why is the new official version not working correctly like the early release version? Please someone help me with this because it's not making sense why the new official version works sometimes and sometimes I get that error message. I hope I can get this resolved before my karaoke gig this Sat.

You need stems 2 to extract the lyrics. You may still get lyrics for songs that other users have played before

That makes zero sense. Why? Because I am not using stems 2.0 and it still works sometimes. So if I "needed" stems 2.0 for it to work, then why is it working sometimes?

Also in the early access build, once again, not using stems 2.0 and it works perfectly on every song I load. I'm not trying to argue. I am trying to understand because right now it's not making any logical sense.

It was working with stems 1 before, but stems 1 is not high enough quality to get reliable lyrics

Wow. What a bummer. All I can say is that stems 1.0 worked FLAWLESSLY. I mean absolutely FLAWLESSLY all night long at my karaoke gig last week. It was incredible! !! My singers were so excited and happy with it.

Then tonight, this happens! I was so embarrassed when I had to deliver the news that an update to the software made it not work anymore.

I know this is not important to you guys, but it is extremely important to me. Here is my suggestion. Please listen and I hope you can give me a slow yes instead of a fast no.

Can we, the users, have the option of using it at our own risk with stems 1.0 or 2.0 instead of FORCING us to use 2.0? I'm telling you now, it works GREAT with stems 1.0.

If not, I may have to dedicate a computer with early access build b8958 just for karaoke and just never ever update it. I really don't want to do that, but that's the only thing I can think of since you all took away the feature that me and my singers needed and were enjoying the most.

What you need to realise is that the early access version you were using is effectively a public beta and subject to change before full release based on feedback and bugfixes.

And what were you using for karaoke before last week, can't you just go back to that? You're making this sound like it's the end of the world when in fact you were using a pre-release version which is subject to change for gigs you rely on and are presumable being paid for?

As a point of principle I do not even use the new public releases on my gig machine for at least a month to see if any issues are ironed out.

Fair enough. I just didn't think the final version would be worse than the public beta version making it not useable at all for me.

That's exactly what it felt like tonight, the end of our "new" karaoke world. I've been doing this particular karaoke gig every Tues night since 2012 and it's packed like crazy. When I introduced this new feature to my karaoke singers, they LOVED it!!! They kept coming up to me all night long praising VDJ and how well this feature worked. It's like we all were living in the twilight zone for one night experiencing something magical. They were so excited because they experienced how awesome it was all night long.

Then they get there tonight and they are STILL ranting and raving about it. So they start giving me songs and out of nowhere, that error message starts popping up. Put yourself in my shoes. How would you react in that situation? All I could do was tell them an update to the software was making it impossible for me to give them what I gave them last week. That didn't go over well. They were mad. They were disappointed. They were confused. They didn't understand. I felt the same way.

This was my very fist time using a public beta version. I didn't know what to expect, but what I do know is that the public beta version rocked our world over here.

And now it's gone.

Well quite simply invest in a more powerful PC that processes Stems 2. Even a basic second hand Macbook Air M1 will work.

I am a PC guy. I have no knowledge of anything Mac related and no desire to learn or invest in one. I'll just take your advice and go back to karaoke without this new feature. It's not worth the hassle.

Thank you for at least listening.

Okay I have a solution (workaround) that I will use in the meantime. I will just prepare the songs to stems 2.0 in advance before they sing it. Just tried it and it's working. So it's more of a hassle, but it's working and that's all that really matters. I can make this work. My karaoke show is so busy that the singers usually have to wait 30 mins or more before they get to sing anyway so by the time they get up to the mic, I should have their song prepared as a stem 2.0 song and we'll be good to go.

I feel better now. Thanks for your insight and feedback. Goodnight guys.

Lesson here is, DONT UPDATE RIGHT BEFORE A GIG ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿพโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Youโ€™re a veteran and should already know this, this is 100% your fault.

You should have pressed NO, wait till you got back home and then tried it out.

Eitherway it still works and I agree, it works great ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ

Yep, I was thinking it, but TSI said it :-)
