Unfortunately, some people are abusing our licensing system, and have been using VirtualDJ FREE or HOME for professional events.
So, we have introduced a small audio drop just saying "VirtualDJ" that will play from time to time if you don't have a PRO license.
The audio drop sounds cool and should not disturb anyone playing at home, but if you are using VirtualDJ in professional events without a PRO license, you might want to get one now, otherwise your audience will know that you are cheating ;)

Might've been more fun to have it say "Your DJ tonight hasn't paid for their software" :-)

It's not cool, it's naff. I use VDJ to play my music catalog in my own home, I don't need it dropping random samples in.
Yes people do abuse the licensing but this takes it out on those that aren't doing anything wrong too. I've also paid money for a license to use VDJ with my very basic controller and this wasn't part of that.

It won't affect you. You've got a license. Anyone else can buy a license too if they don't like the watermark.

Reminds me of the time the cracked version of BPM Studio (bypassing the USB dongle licence) introduced a loud "beep beep beep" randomly at some point. Happened to the guy I worked with in a club on a really busy night and he had to reboot then got fired.
I guess some people use VDJ at home for just playing music but as you say there are some using one channel in to a mixer to get past it. This will catch out a lot of people who have a home controller licence but are using it at gigs.
On a side note I still know people using cracked versions of V7 but that will fade away as they have to replace their laptops.

Looks like the OP has a home licence so it will cut in by the looks of it. Only PRO removes the sample.

Looking at the license web page, the controller licenses are called Home Plus. For users without license, it's called Home Free. The title says "no license" and a Home Plus is a license.
@Stephane can you clarify?

....so really the title should say "when no Pro license" and the text should say "Home Free or Home Plus". :-)

Can I echo other people's comment that this was not part of the deal when I bought the license for my controller! I'm not a DJ and I play strictly at home, often Jazz or Classical music. This does affect me and, sadly, is a reason to stop using VDJ.

Pretty sure the licence page counts Home Plus users (as they are paying users) Professional users, and therefore you should be unaffected, but @Stephane can clarify.

I have a controller license and it does it

Controller licence is for home only use per the EULA. Only a Pro license removes the sample now.

If you had a registered pro license it would say so under your name. That's why you still hear it

Interesting to see that there's now a $4 per month home subscription shown inside VDJ alongside the $19 Pro subscription - but no Pro Infinity option!

i get this if i hit buy from the home web page

Yeah, I guess it's understandable that they're not in sync yet as VDJ 2026 is still EA.
