"we"?
professional grade software needs something far more powerful than a kids cheap chromebook to run on.

Yes, like an ipad

And to add, the platform should have the best support possible for the hardware being considered (iPads are powerful but iOS does not currently fit that profile for the current set of top-level, professional controllers - if you don't believe, check some other forums where support is claimed)
I would love to know if Copilot+ based Windows Surfaces/machines at least have that freedom/potentially have a translation layer for drivers - this would be the portable formfactor with complete support I would look for.
Edit: Microsoft's PRISM might be the temp stopgap emulation we are looking for, but I don't know if/how well it works with custom device drivers (Atomix Devs/other knowledgeable persons might have more info here)

So the comment isn't to say that it doesn't work well with iPad, it's just it won't work 100% with all controllers currently, especially the ones with screens, because of them not being class compliant. That's not something Algoriddim or Atomix devs can change...it's just what the platform/hardware makers gives them. Maybe Apple will loosen that restriction or hardware makers start considering iOS in their endeavours more, but until then you'll have to be very aware of the controllers you pick if iPad usage is your goal.
IMO this sort of works against one of VirtualDJ's selling points - works with all controllers they claim support for on all supported platforms...they'll have to start putting special clauses as to where things are expected to work fully, unless/until things change.
