If that is not possible, how do I tell it the music is on d: now and not c: any more .
had it on the internal drive of a PC want to use an external drive now.

Plug in the external drive then use the right click > file operations > copy to command within the VDJ browser to copy the music from it's current location.
It will create a database for those tracks on the new drive
