Topic: Stem split - Page: 1
Do we have a way of doing that vocal/instrumental thing the T-10 does??

stems_split just that. It's been around for quite a while [years]

Stem Split already allows for the manipulation of pieces separately by unlinking them.

If you then put slip mode on for any piece you manipulate, you'll get the jump back to current point, but instantly after the drop, so that isn't probably what is desired.

I think if you relink the tracks though, it goes back to synchronization between the parts, so what you would probably want is a delayed slip/relink - like having a scratch drop is done has the parts unlinked until you drop it, then waits the number of beats/some defined time, and then links back the tracks.

Not sure how scriptable it is as is, but it might mean an update to the slip_mode verb to take an optional time that delays the return to current playback point.

I’ll try it again tonight but I couldn’t get it to work like the T-10 does it.

Yep what I'm saying is the delay you can't get without effort, and if I remember correctly I tried unlink with my S11 and it didn't work (maybe because it was a two deck mixer), but unlink works with my FLX10, and putting slip on before scratching does get you jump back behavior, just not with a delay.

You don't need stem split for this, slip mode already works like this, you just have to select stem fx to only work on vocals

So if i select the stem fx the insturmental will still play even when I close the crossfader??

Ok Ill try it again.

@Adion, so the person stated that the slip mode essentially waits for a specific period of time before going to the current play point - does slip mode have a wait component?

i did it with a custom button and assigned it with this command

toggle "$vocal_slip" & var "$vocal_slip" ? stems_split & stems_split_unlink & deck 1 slip_mode on & set_led 1 : deck 1 slip_mode off & deck 3 stop & deck 3 unload & set_led 0

I am interested in creating this feature.
And correct me if I am wrong, and feel scripting on one deck (w slip enabled) that the crossfader would still apply to all sounds from that deck, (ie not allow some stems to continue to play with the crossfader not on that deck)

Here is maybe a better example:

This would be amazing to have this feature added as an available Pad (in Extensions)

How do you have your cross_assign set for the 2 decks to allow for the crossfader to produce the effect shown in:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHDK7gOylCY&t=1036s

love that, it's almost gone full circle to replicate my clone out padpage.

oK Im just talking about the STEM SLIP, I dont want the jump at all..

Ok so it'll work with the upfaders, but not with the crossfader, UNLESS Im missing something which is highly possible.......

Just unlink the stem parts (the parameter buttons on the pads) so you can manipulate them separately, and if you split by vocal, you can just drop the upfader for the instrumental part and work with that.

The crossfader kind of isn't a convient way to work with it if you want to mix between parts, because by default the parts are split to the decks on the same side of the crossfader (I think there is a way to change that though in the settings).
If you are trying to mix the parts with a song on the opposite side of the crossfader then it works just like if you were mixing two tracks on opposite decks.

Yeah thats the issue Im having which is why I can get it work with the upfaders but not the crossfader.

EDIT, found the setting but when using ONLY 2 tables this kind of defeats the purpose. Again if im missing something let me know.

Thanks for all the info.

So VDJ can do more then the T10 implementation of split stems.

as all have mentioned:
The use of effect_stems
and
then using stems_split and stems_split_unlink
with slip_mode on

and the missing piece, I was scratching my head over, was to remove the lower decks from the Crossfader action w cross_assign.

Summary:
VDJ has for some time had even more capability then the T10 implementation of split stems, as Mojaxx was mentioning, that he was wanting, but could not apply any additional FX affects to the stem that he was scratching/playing with, and of course that is so easy in VDJ to do when/if needed.

PS
Question: Is there a way to split, say deck 1's track to say between "deck 1 and deck 5" ?
with something like deck 1 stems_split 5
so the background split, would not use up, deck 3, in this case ?
(could not get this to work, and assume not possible to determine the location of the split)

Maybe will add as script wish, if not possible currently.

ok so I got it figured out, it does work but Id love it if it was only 1 button press.

I'm interested in this too.

I'm not exactly following how you got it to work. I'd love to map the slip mode button to just slip the vocals and keep the instrumental on.

All depends on your set up but really it's just cloning out with a stem cut to the swap deck and applying a stem solo on source deck.
