I’m using the latest VirtualDJ 2026.
I have playlists/My Lists on my DJ laptop where all tracks work correctly and are local files.
I want to move only the playlists to my main Studio PC.
The problem is that the music is stored very differently:
- Laptop: music is on C: in one folder structure
- Studio PC: music is on D: in a completely different folder structure
The same songs exist locally and VirtualDJ can find them in Search DB.
However, when I import/export the playlists (VDJ List or M3U), some tracks appear with the red Online Music icon instead of linking to the local files on D:.
On the laptop those same tracks are not Online Music tracks.
I do not want to restore the laptop database over the Dell database, because the Dell setup is already working correctly.
Is there a current VirtualDJ 2026 method to:
Automatically relink/match all playlist entries to the existing local files, DB, even though the drive letter and folder structure are completely different?
Thanks.

In all honesty it makes far more sense to maintain the same file structure on all machines (if possible). Makes syncing between PCs so much easier.

Better yet - move everything, from within VirtualDJ, onto an external drive (all files, database entries and virtual folders (once made hot swappable, which is the default) stay on the drive and are accessible from every machine you plug it into).

That's a major issue, not just for VirtualDJ, but as others said already, for keeping things in sync and generally being aware of what you have.
VirtualDJ itself is "Drive Letter Agnostic" which in simple terms it means that it ignores the drive letter and can deal with cases where the same drive can be D: on one machine while it's F: on another.
However, it expects the path of the files to be identical, and only the drive letter to change.
VirtualDJ also has a "find missing file" function to locate files that may have been moved outside VirtualDJ to another place. However for this function to work as good as it gets, there are two critical conditions:
1) The FILENAME is still the same, and 2) The filesize is also the same.
Only then VirtualDJ will consider another track as a candidate for a missing track.
If your filenames are the same between the two machines (and only folder structure is different) then this function could help you (and there's also a fast way to do it that we'll discuss later).
But if the filenames are different, then you're out of luck.
Still, even if the filenames are the same, any proposed solution will work "only once". Meaning that if you want to repeat the same process (copying your playlists) sometime in the future, you will have to repeat everything from start.
Now the juicy part:
IF (and only if) your filenames are the same, then you can try this:
1) Go to the laptop computer.
2) Take a backup of the database, by using VirtualDJ's own database backup function
3) Go on your desktop
4) Locate the root folder of your media files
5) Recurse it (so that all files inside it are seen by VirtualDJ)
6) Wait for the recurse to end
7) Restore the database backup you took from your laptop, to your desktop, again by using VirtualDJ's backup/restore function.
This procedure usually works fine when libraries have small differences and the media files RETAIN the same filename (and filesize obviously)

@phantom I have questions if audio signature comes into play, I guess it depends on signature is stored in lists/m3u

No, not at this moment in time.
