Just playing around with the early access version, created a couple of visuals (very impressive) but suddenly getting a message saying I'm out of credits. I didn't see anything mentioning a limit when I started playing (or I'd have chosen my selections more carefully). How many monthly creations are included for Infinity users?

It's 4 over a 30 day period, starting from when you create your first. It tells you how many you have available, right below the Generate button (although it is in very small text).
If you try to generate after using all 4 then you get an option to buy more.

I've just bought my first 10 AI loops, although £16 is a bit steep imo, but also worth it. I wonder, does it count as 1 AI loop if the Ai can't do it?, do I then just lose that credit or is it only if it's successful?

Only if it is successful (ie you can see it in the visuals plugin, there is the number of used)

I had another instance of "Sorry I can't do that" recently, but really have no idea why.
I was trying to make some old style pixelated computer game characters.
My second attempt (after changing the words slightly) worked, but the first one got refused - even when it had already showed me a preview image. No idea why. I didn't name any characters, games or companies.
