a lot of the time i have old recordings and they could do with there vocal being rasied up in vol with a auto stem vocal gain. This would be so amazing

I disagree with such "permanent" alteration (which is done not not as a part of a mix / transition) but each one to it's own.
Anyway, you can turn the "VOCAL" stem eq knob to the right. This will lower all other stems but vocals, bringing the vocals more to the front of the mix. Then you can also raise regular gain a little to boost part of the sound you lost when lowering the other stems, which of course will also make the vocals louder

That's what I do and it works perfectly.

Yes agree, that works perfectly.
And sometimes, prefer, to turn the "EZ-Remix Beats" stems, left, then boost the gain, a bit, depending on track.

My solution has been to add LoudMax as an effect to the vocal stem, then you can engage and adjust parameters to taste. I actually used VDJ to record a track that I fixed this way, so I had a permanent copy.

I'm pretty sure than an "automatic" solution that would compress and amplify the vocals, would make A LOT of songs sound very strange..
Part of what makes music interesting are the dynamics of each part.
Having a "whisper" being as loud as a "yell" on a track would be awful..
