Stem separation in VirtualDJ works really well... however, I have a single song which stem separation completely destroys and makes unmixable. When it creates the .vdjstems file It actually removes parts of the instrumental. It doesn't place these parts of the instrumental into the wrong stem, it doesn't include them in the .vdjstems file at all. So as soon as you start to mix in the stem file the instrumental just disappears completely.
Here's a copy of the track, I also used FFMPEG to separate the stems from the .vdjstems file so you can easily listen to them individually:
