Topic: Pioneer FLX-10 Controller
Has anyone used this controller with VDJ and what has been your experience as opposed to using it with Serato Pro? Being that the manufacturer recommends its use with Serato or Rekordbox not specifically VDJ

It's absolutely perfect with VDJ in every way. No complaints whatsoever.

I've tried it before and others on the forum own + use it as their daily driver - it works fine.

Notable things (if I remember correctly, @kradcliffe and others can correct/add):

  • The default Jog display is the same as Rekordbox
    This is a good thing as the Rekordbox default display shows more than the Serato display
  • The mapping is geared more towards the labels on the controller (which are Rekordbox focused)
    This is good because you can depend more on reading the controller to get an idea of how to do things.
    The only thing I remember that was different was the mix point buttons function like what Serato does I think.

    You should still read the manual before assuming anything though


An additional note: the manufacturer did not recommend any Software platform, they stated what they originally developed the controller to work with. The technology the controller works on (USB connection, vendor provided drivers, HID + MIDI) is the same regardless of Software platform.
 
It works perfectly in virtual dj, only some things “work differently” like stem fx.

Sometimes I get a bit confused as I use serato, rekordbox and virtual dj, for example when I have the 3 stem fx buttons active and I want to use padfx with effects to each stem, it doesn't work in virtualdj, it just doesn't apply them, I have to deactivate the stem fx buttons first.
 
Hi, only minor differences,
EXTRACTED OF MANUAL:
CUE CALL. Use these buttons to jump to the previous/next available Cue point of the Track.

MIXPOINT SELECT. Use these buttons to adjust the Key of the Track by 1 semitone

LINK. Use this button to reset the Key of the Track to its original value.

This group of buttons doesn't perform the same function as it would in rekordbox.
In fact, those rekordbox functions are lost when using VDJ.
I don't know exactly why this was done this way.
However, with the evolution and continuous improvement of scripting for mapping, I think it would be possible to map them today so that their function is, if not exactly the same, very similar to that they perform in rekordbox.
Since the release of FLX10, VDJ added the link function, for example.
I think the way song linking works isn't the same in VDJ and Rekordbox, so I don't know to what extent the two software could be used to match their functionality,
but something similar could certainly be achieved, unlike what it is now.

Those are mapped differently because VirtualDJ doesn't have the equivalent of memory cues/mixpoints.

I personally don't see the need for another Cue system outside of hotcues but I guess persons more involved in the Pioneer CDJ ecosystem would have better info/experience on this.

I can't remember the Mixpoint feature tbh, but you could probably map that functionality with vdjscript if you had to (I guess using remix points)
 
That's right, I meant exactly that. While those functions that VDJ didn't have weren't mapped or weren't compatible, it may now be possible to map those buttons to make them more similar to the original rekorbox function.
Furthermore, and returning to the initial question, regarding the controller's operation with VDJ, it's fully compatible, working without any problems, lag, or loss of compatibility. In fact, with VDJ, you can map and add many more functions to the same buttons, multiplying their options using the mapping script.
I would also like to point out that before deciding to purchase VDJ, you can try it by purchasing a monthly license.

That's why it's supported by multiple softwares so you can choose the one that suits your workflow the best.
