Topic: PER-SONG samples - how to import / arrange them?
This sounds like a very obvious/common thing, but I can't get it to work.
I simply want to have some samples (.wav files of my own) that only get loaded for a particular song, so the PER-SONG samplebanks seem the obvious choice. However, I can't find a way to do that. What am I doing wrong?

Select the per song bank on the sampler pad page, then drop the samples you want on the pad you want

That's how it should work, but when I drag a .wav from an USB-stick to the pad (on the PER-SONG bank), it is displayed but not saved. Also, I can't edit that sample.

Never came across that function, seems nice.
So in short it means a sample bank will be loaded and ”linked” to a track?

Here is a small picture how it looks like on "my bank" setup.

Very good video, but it doesn't explain the "PER-SONG" banks. Still no idea why the drag & drop of .wav files doesn't get saved...

Drag&Drop on the pads on the decks to assign samples only works with .vdjsample
If your sample is still a .wav it will not work and just load the sample on the deck instead.

You can open the sampler in the sideview though, make sure it's in grid mode, and then drag&drop the .wav to the position you want.

Why this restriction?

From our POV it's a sampler. Samplers use WAVs (or MP3s, or other standard formats).

If people want to use samples from libraries like Akai, Native Instruments etc. then the samples are not going to be in vdjsample format.

It's not convenient to have VDJ create duplicates of all the WAVs I use in the sampler.

Thanks, but that doesn't work. First of all, I get a kind of split grid (left & right), and I can't drop the .wav in the left pane (I get an error about a filename being too long which makes no sense). When I drop it on the right pane, it doesn't show on the pads. Secondly, editing the sample doesn' t work (doesn't get saved).

the entire path for a file can only be 255 characters long unless you specifically disabled this in windows. it is most certainly a real possible issue. you may want to check this.

As mentioned, it's not a sampler limitation and you can use the sideview sampler to add them.
For the pads on the decks it's not allowed because dropping a song on a deck was already used to load a song to the deck

The pads on the right are for the right deck, on the left side for the left deck.
Perhaps no song was loaded on the right deck so nothing would happen.

Could you post a picture of the tag editor of the .wav you are trying to add?

....but he's dropping it on a sample pad, not the deck.

Dropping to the deck should load it to the deck - dropping to the sampler pad should load it to the sampler.

Surely most people would be expecting to be able to load a sample by dropping it to the pad, and that it would accept samples in a standard format.

As it is, we've got conflicting behaviour. Dragging a vdjsample to the pads works as expected, but dragging a more standard format doesn't.

I would like to use STEM samples with vidoefiles as I mostly do Video ;)

What would that practically mean though?
We don't really have 'stems' for video, so you can't really replace the drummer in the source video with the drummer shown in the stems video or something like that :p

For me I would use this as vocal sampler with video like an "accapella sampler".

So you would keep the full video of the part you take the acapella from, and while playing the acapella, the video will be replaced with the acapella video?

I know we are talking about per-song samples now, but I would likely more have it saved in My Bank instead so I can use it with different songs on the fly and easier to make mashups.
I hope you understand how Im thinking ;)

Hello, here is a picture of the error message I am getting when dropping a .wav from an USB-stick to the left panel.

I see, the problem is not with the sample, but with the song you are trying to assign it to.
The ":" in the song's title probably cause the issue.
