Topic: Selective Gain Edit
Hello VDJ fam!
It would be great to see an enhancement to the Track Cleaner feature that allows for selective editing on specific parts of a track. For example, when a section has low gain, having the ability to boost gain just for that portion directly within the app would be extremely helpful.

So this request is reasonable, however you can already do this with some thought:


  • Create a Track Cleaner edit of the track
    This will be the copy that you'll do the edits on
  • Load that Track cleaner edit and introduce Action POIs to do the task you want at the locations in the teack, using vdjscript


Now you can use that Track Cleaner edit for playback and it should do the things you desire.

In some sense, the request could be considered outside of the scope given the name of the feature (Track Cleaner), but is understandable if considered in scope too.

They won't be able to add everything, but at least you can use this method for things they may not add - you can even use it to jump around the song, for example, creating a 4 beat Intro track, where the instrumental section isn't at the start of the song.
 
Thanks man ..I thought Track Cleaner would be the most appropriate place to put that feature in.
 
Wow I can add the Action POI directly on the track without creating a copy of it.

Now the feature that would be veey useful for me is an AI agent writing the script for me, because as usual I don't know how to create thre script..
 
I checked the documentation, but the command or verb Gain is not available so I dont know the syntax. I need to push the gain to 150% for 3 beats
 
IMO if you've got a track that has a wide dynamic range, just run it through a compressor/maximizer. If you have one in an FX slot just engage/disengage as required. No need to edit tracks.

...or edit that section in Audacity (other audio editing software is available).
 
An example is Bag Lady from Erykah Badu. That 3 beat intro is sooooo quiet every time I mix it I have to turn manually the gain up and down once the 3 beats are over...not so confortable...I could use n external program to bump the gain for those three beats, but I thought VDJ could have an available feature
 
The way ppl would normally handle it is in an external DAW as @groovindj said, but if you really want to have VirtualDJ handle it, an action POI is the way to go. The track cleaner is useful if you want to have multiple versions of the track where you want to do different things to it.
 
I created an Action POI when I want the gain to be boosted 
gain 200%
and one where it has to go back to normal
gain 50%


It worked perfectly....thanks VDJ FAM!
 
Actually I noticed that whenever I stop that track with the Action POI and even unload it, the gain remains at 200%... this is probably something not working properly...
 
Don't think that is a bug - resetGainOnLoad=yes would normally handle that unless a controller is connect I suppose.

You could probably put the gain reset in ONSONGLOAD of the keyboard mapper but that might introduce problems as well.

Probably is better to make a custom recording that handles this, but it is a reasonable request, just if the devs thinks it's worthy (I had made a similar request a while for stem FX application as censoring in the Track Cleaner (e.g. Vocal Echo Out) but it never came to be).
