i have been experimenting with ask the dj, but it seems that it isnt working very well, customers are putting their own names in the song field, etc. and not putting the full song name etc.
as seen here in the attached photo, only one entry is complete, the last one. the rest are gibberish.
(as you can see, I am working in 3 different languages too which is tricky)
nowadays people often bring up the song on spotify in their phone and hold up their phone in front of me when they want a song, so i think the ideal scenario , would be to enable some way to integrate spotify or post from spotify directly to the ask the dj, then there is no room for error and the DJ can get the full and correct name of the song, i am not sure exactly how that would work, i would have to rely on the genius Virtual dj programmers , but i think it is the ideal way to do it.

just to elaborate more on the idea

- You can pretty much make your own front-end webpage with more granular parameters, logic and asthetic look and then have that page send the info off to ask.the.dj
- Why only Spotify? Why not all the other streaming sevices? Would you want this page to continually be checking/adding these streaming integrations?
If invalid song titles are the problem, it seems much simpler to ask your audience to provide their requests in a specific format (e.g. Artist - Title), as that's how it comes into VirtualDJ anyways (ask.the.dj enforces no structure within the application). If they don't provide it in that format, or their song title is wrong, it gets ignored (it's on the requester to put forth a valid request).
Not saying that the feature request isn't valid, it's probably useful, but it does seem like it's a bit of overkill to
solve the real problem (clients should be making proper requests regardless how how they are asked to supply it).

how would i make my own front end wep page? have you a link or something that would instruct me on how to go about that?
well if spotify is integrated, once you have typed in the first few letters of the name, it gives you the options there. makes it a lot easier to make the requests. there is another app called "tell the dj" which does this, and when you see it ,you can see how handy it is. HOWEVER that app requires the user to download the app also ,which i think is too much to ask.
i dont think anything more than spotify is needed, its just to ensure that valid commercially available songs are chosen. it has roughly a similar selection of music as itunes for example... which is most stuff.
it is simply the case that there are often multiple songs out there with the same name,or multiple versions of songs and so on. i can list 100s of examples. it just makes it easier to communicate.

I admit this isn't an easy undertaking for someone who's not into software development. You'll have to find resources/understand the basics of web page dev and hosting, lots of material online to start looking at that.

I don't agree with this because it's implicitly assuming everyone uses Spotify. There are many Tidal, Apple Music, Amazon Music and Deezer users who may not even have Spotify installed, and the fraction could be much greater compared to Spotify depending on where in the world you are looking at.

I agree there could be many versions of a song, but it's still up to the requester to know what they want.
I do agree such integration it could make the request process faster though.

You could upload your entire catalog in AskTheDJ for your audience to choose from, this is great for say an '80s night' where you can upload the 80s songs they can choose from. It's in the VirtualDJ manual;

ok i take your points, however, the idea isnt that the person uses spotify per se. (although literally everyone does where i live) it is merely a question of whether spotify or any similar service might have the song in their database and therefore bring up the full name of the song etc.
amazon has quirky regional restrictions incidentally, i cannot buy songs from amazon (in ireland) and it does not allow people to stream outside their country of residence, so i believe, maybe that is why nobody uses it here.

i would do it for a theme night for sure.
although, what i find particularly nice about the ask the DJ service, is when someone asks for a good song that you do not have in your collection. i may be able to download it in real time at the event, or at the very least, review the list the following morning and get the song for the next gig.

Don't get me wrong, I think your idea is good one and eases the process of requesting , but it also feels like a little discipline in crafting requests could go a long way.
I also think that the catalog suggestion is a good one as well - it may miss uncollected songs but it guarantees you can't make an uncomprehendable request and that you have it.

yea my point was that having an auto complete option just helps a lot...it doesnt have to be spotify, it could be any database that has songs in their original form and is up to date
actually I found an app called "no song requests" that actually does, pretty much everything i wanted, and it also interfaces with virtual dj. so thats kinda handy
