I'm not actually sure why this is still going.
And the final thing probably to say is, VirtualDJ is not a music player like iTunes, etc (not sure why so many people are saying that or saying they use it like that), it's professional DJ software. If you want a music player, there are many of them out there that can be used for the task.
- The fact is: The EULA is what you agreed to - paying by itself doesn't guarantee anything in terms of the service.
This is true for all services/software you use - just because you paid for the service/software, doesn't mean you own it/can do anything you want with it. If you use it for anything outside of the EULA, you broke the contract, and Atomix/Any other servce/software provider are within their right to stop you from using the software in the incorrect manner.
Relative operating requirements for different type of services/software offerings isn't really relevant to the discussion, as that could involve contracts/costs that we have no part to play in. - Readingeading and understanding the EULA is required. Then, if they proveably broke by the move, I have no argument against a valid prove of violation. Simply just paying, isn't a proof of violation of anything.

Why this is still going?
Well, why does VDJ suddenly force me to go pro while I only use their software at home? I AM NO PRO, I don't use this in a PRO environment not now, not ever. It's just a hobby to me.
And have been doing that for years now (on a home plus license without the annoying audio drop).
I've read all the comments here "plenty of free options available yadayada". Sure, but I chose VDJ and I love it, but I don't like to be forced to a form I'm not a part of at all. It's just a hobby to me and it used to work good until this annoyance.
i just switched controllers (still on an entry-level one DDJ-RB>DDJ-FLX4) and now I'm kind of forced to use the "old" one since the license on that one doesn't have the annoyance. The new one would have tho and that stinks and doesn't make a lot of sense tbh.

It seems that I am a special case. I play at public events voluntarily, I don't charge any fee. I also don't need a controller (I just use Automix), so the free version has been sufficient for me so far.
I have solved the problem provisional with a rollback to Version 2020 - I hope this version will be offered at least until Atomix offers a solution for this problem.

The solution is to buy a licence.

In the EULA stands for years, that the Pro license is only necessary if you use Virtual DJ as a "professional" DJ (in the sense of getting paid).
The idea of Atomix is that I shall pay 228 € per year, even when I DJ completely voluntarily?
Since Virtual DJ exists, it has the gap, that there is NO REAL option for DJ's that play at larger public events (without a controller) and NOT earning money. I guess that this case is so seldom that Atomix has ignored such special cases - the free version did the job. It also would have been fair if the EULA wrote from the beginning, that I should had to buy a Pro license for ANY PUBLIC event, doesn't matter if I get paid or not. Then I would have bought the 99 € Pro license ONCE that was offered until last year. But 228 € EACH YEAR is MUCH too expensive.
Sol now, the problem seems to become slowly real. Today, I still can help myself with older versions. Perhaps in the future, pirated copies of Virtual DJ get more widespread, if Atomix doesn't offer an affordable offer for DJ's who play on public events without a controller and not getting paid.

Professional means basically if you're not using the software at home for personal listening. That's it in a nutshell. If you see it differently then fair enough, but since other companies don't offer similar free use then why should Atomix?
Streaming services and TV providers also have their definition of home vs professional use, and their home or free offering wouldn't cover public events either.
Default "Free" license
- The default free or "Home" licenses give you the right to install the software on your private computer and use it for personal use only.
- It does not give you the right to use it for professional use (where you are getting paid or compensated for an activity that involves using the software), without purchasing an additional "Pro" license.

As I already wrote, I am a completely voluntarily DJ, and I'm NOT getting paid or compensated. So I do this NOT professional.

Strictly speaking then, you do not NEED to use VirtualDJ.
You're (allegedly) not earning money, not using a controller and just putting music in a playlist. There are numerous free options for playing music one track after another. You don't need DJ software for that.
If you do want to use DJ software for some reason, then there are cheaper options than VDJ and there are also free DJ programs that don't announce the name of the software.
It does puzzle me why someone who's not using it professionally would be so bothered about hearing the name of the software that they chose....

But what I need is prelistening (via Stereo-to-Mono-Splitter) and a good beat detection and Automix. These are the only features why I use VDJ, because e.g. Winamp doesn't have these two things. Because I needed these two things additionally, I searched and found VDJ Free.
I would need a quite minimalistic DJ software just like the "Starter" skin of Virtual DJ with the ACTUAL sound quality and handling. I don't need all the other crap. The main problem is that Virtual DJ has become Bloatware over the years, but the user who only needs the "Starter" skin features and don't use controller, internet connection, stems, effects etc. has now to pay OVER 200 € EACH YEAR or has to rollback to an older version (as long it is available and runs on an actual Windows 11 laptop).

Until a few weeks, VDJ itself was EXACTLY that: clear and stable running, and free when you didn't use it commercially and didn't need a hardware controller.
"It does puzzle me why someone who's not using it professionally would be so bothered about hearing the name of the software that they chose...."" ---- I'm not using it PROFESSIONALLY (= I don't earn any money with the DJ-ing), but I use it on PUBLIC events. I don't wanna hear the "Virtual DJ" advertisement while playing Celine Dion at a wedding! And until a few weeks VDJ did that job perfectly. Now I have to hope that the older versions stay available and compatible with the latest computers in the future.

Perhaps it would be a good idea, when the free version is restricted to the "Starter" skin instead of the audio branding.
